Things I Thought Were True Until I Grew Up

We all had some wild beliefs as kids things that made total sense at the time but now make us laugh (or cringe). It’s funny how our young minds filled in the gaps with whatever logic seemed right! Here are some of the things I truly believed until reality hit me.
1. The Moon Follows You
I was absolutely convinced that the moon was my personal stalker. Every time we drove at night, there it was, tagging along like a loyal friend. Turns out, it’s just an illusion because of how far away the moon is. But let’s be real, it still kinda feels personal.
2. Swallowing Gum Means It Stays in Your Stomach for Seven Years
I lived in fear of accidentally swallowing gum because I thought it would just sit in my stomach, waiting for its seventh birthday. In reality, your digestive system is pretty good at moving things along gum isn’t digested, but it definitely doesn’t camp out for years.
3. If You Swallow a Seed, a Tree Will Grow Inside You 😂
This one was nightmare fuel! I used to panic after eating watermelons, convinced I’d wake up with vines coming out of my ears. Sadly (or thankfully), stomach acid is way too powerful for that to happen. No indoor gardening for me.
4. The Floor Is Actually Lava
Not just a fun game, but an actual belief. I really thought stepping on the floor in certain situations would burn me. Honestly, I wouldn’t be mad if life worked like this it would make grocery shopping way more exciting.
5. The ATM Gives Out Free Money 😂
I genuinely believed my parents just walked up to the ATM, pressed some buttons, and bam! money appeared. It was only later that I learned about this thing called a job (not as magical, I must say).
6. Quick Sand Was Going to Be a Bigger Problem in Life
Cartoons made it seem like quicksand was everywhere. I thought stepping in the wrong spot would mean instant doom. Turns out, it’s not as common as TV led me to believe, and if you ever do find it, you can usually get out just fine.
7. If You Cross Your Eyes for Too Long, They’ll Stay That Way
I was genuinely terrified to test this one out. Spoiler alert: It’s not true. Your eyes will go back to normal, no matter how long you cross them (but maybe don’t do it during an important Zoom call).
Growing up is just one long process of realizing how many weird things we used to believe. What’s something you thought was true as a kid? Drop it in the comments, I need to know I wasn’t alone in this! 😆👇
